Privacy Policy
This policy explains what LateralScout collects when you use the website and product, why we collect it, and how we handle it. The attorney roster and related professional data in the product are business information, not this policy’s focus; this policy covers information about you as a customer or visitor.
What we collect
- Account: email address; sign-in and session records; seats and roles you configure.
- Billing: subscription plan, seat counts, and payment status. Card details are processed by Stripe; LateralScout does not store full card numbers.
- Usage: product interactions needed to operate and secure the service (for example searches, exports, feature use, approximate timestamps, and diagnostic logs).
- Communications: messages you send us and related delivery metadata.
- Technical: standard request data such as IP address, user agent, and security logs when you use the site or API.
Why we use it
To create and authenticate accounts, deliver magic-link sign-in, provide the product, bill and collect payment, prevent abuse, troubleshoot, meet legal obligations, and communicate about your account or the service.
Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with processors that help run LateralScout (currently Stripe for payments, Cloudflare for hosting and security, and our email delivery provider for sign-in and transactional mail), when required by law, or to protect LateralScout’s rights and users. Processors may use data only to provide their services to us.
Retention
We keep account and billing records for as long as your account is active and as needed for legitimate business, tax, and legal purposes afterward. Session and security logs are kept for shorter operational periods unless needed longer for investigations or compliance.
Security
We use industry-standard safeguards appropriate to a hosted SaaS service. No method of transmission or storage is fully secure; you use the service at your own risk to that extent.
Your choices
You may update seat memberships in-product, cancel a subscription in the billing portal, and request account deletion or a copy of account data by emailing us. We may retain information when required by law or for legitimate residual purposes (for example completed invoices).
Children
LateralScout is for business users. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16.
International
We operate in the United States. If you access the service from elsewhere, you understand your information may be processed in the U.S. and other countries where our processors run.
Changes
We may update this policy by posting a new version with an updated effective date. Material changes will apply prospectively.
